The fifth global summit of 'Vibrant Gujarat' opened with great fanfare as the state claimed to have got investment commitments from various corporate houses to the tune of nearly Rs 15 lakh crore on the first day itself. That was not all, the Chief Minister was also hailed as thegreatest thing to have happened to the state after Mahatama Gandhi and Dhirubhai Ambani. The Congress said the comparison with Mahatama Gandhi was odious.

Youngsters waiting for their turn at a special recruitment drive for the police force on a cold day at Khanyar in downtown Srinagar. Many of these youths were believed to have fought pitched battles with police last summer.Khanyar area includes some highly volatile localities where stone-pelters had engaged police and CRPF in running battles during the five-month-long unrest in the Valley last summer. All the youths, who appeared in the recruitment drive, denied have participated in the stone-pelting but a CRPF jawan on duty at the camp claimed he had identified at least 100 youths who had indulged in stone-pelting in different parts of the city. Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, S M Sahai, said "if there is a criminal case against anyone, he will not be recruited in the force."
